Why Could Donald Trump Go to Jail?
Before we break down the latest prop betting odds, let’s take a step back and examine the issue itself. The former President’s alleged affair with Stormy Daniels is well-known. But the issue has popped up once again and could land Trump in some serious hot water.
Trump is being investigated by New York officials for allegedly falsifying business records. The former President is accused of having his lawyer, Michael Cohen, pay Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress, “hush money” to cover up an affair.

According to prosecutors, Trump then paid back Cohen using money from the Trump Organization and wrote off the payments as “legal fees.” If proven true, the former President could be charged with a felony in the state of New York.
The question on everyone’s mind is: “Is Trump going to jail?” The Grand Jury hearing the case has yet to make a decision.
But the former President appears to be worried about his near future. In a recent post on his Truth Social platform, he even went as far as calling for his supporters to protest his arrest.
The New York Police Department has also taken measures to prepare against potential violent protestors, including setting up barricades.
Prop Bets for Donald Trump’s Arrest
Will Trump go to jail? Well, we do not yet know what the Grand Jury will decide in the current case against Trump. But many oddsmakers, including BetOnline, are offering bettors the chance to wager on the former President’s fate.
Here are some prop bets available at BetOnline regarding Trump’s potential arrest.
Color of Trump’s Tie During Arrest
- Red (-200)
- Blue (+200)
- Yellow (+400)
- Black (+500)
- Purple (+1200)
- Orange (+1600)
Trump prides himself on his appearance. Outside the golf course, it is rare to catch the former President not wearing a suit and tie. So if Trump is arrested, you can bet he will probably be wearing a suit.
This wager from BetOnline allows you to bet on the color of the tie Trump is wearing during his arrest.
Red (-200) is the favorite, but you can also wager on five other colors.
Trump’s supporters are overwhelmingly Republican, so wearing the party color does make sense. There is no doubt that both Trump and his opponents will use his arrest in any potential 2024 campaign ads.
In recent years, the former President has usually appeared in a red or blue tie. So, if you plan on betting against the favorite, I would choose blue (+200). It currently has the second-shortest odds of all of the options in this bet.
Outside of red or blue, the only other option I would consider is black (+500). Trump has portrayed his potential arrest as a miscarriage of justice. Black is the universal color of mourning and would be a fitting pick for the seriousness of the situation.
Which Happens First: Pepper Sprayed or Tased?
- Pepper Sprayed (-200)
- Tased (+150)
As I mentioned above, Trump has already called on his supporters to protest his arrest this week. The NYPD has already taken measures to prevent MAGA supports from interfering with the arrest.
Given the preparations already made by NYPD, it is likely they will use force when necessary. That could extend to Trump himself if he tries to recent his arrest. That could put the NYPD at odds with the Secret Service, but that is a different issue.

BetOnline is offering bettors two options for wagering on the NYPD’s tactics. You can wager on Trump to be pepper sprayed (-200) or tased (+150). The option that occurs first will be the winner.
Personally, I do not think the NYPD will need to use either option. Trump is 76 years old, and I expect the former President to go peacefully if he is arrested. Resisting the arrest would not only put Trump in more legal trouble, but it could also hurt his plans to run for President in 2024.
But if you do plan to bet on this prop, I would take the pepper spray (-200) option. As I said, Trump is 76, and I think the NYPD would opt for the least lethal option.
Where Will Trump Be When He Is Arrested?
- Personal Residence (-300)
- Golf Course (+300)
- Police Station (+300)
Another option for betting on Trump potentially going to jail is where the former President will be when he is arrested. According to the oddsmakers at the top real money sports betting sites, Trump’s personal residence (-300) is the most likely location for his arrest.
Trump’s New York residence makes a lot of sense for several reasons.
First and foremost, Trump knows that this arrest is potentially coming. Being arrested at home would be the least embarrassing option.
Also, the calendar may say it is March, but April’s showers have arrived a few weeks early. It is supposed to rain most of this week in NYC, so I doubt Trump is hitting the links this week.
He probably does not want a protest tearing up one of his golf courses, either. Trump is the one calling for the protests. It would make sense for him to keep the action away from the well-manicured lawns of one of his courses.
The third option for this prop bet is the police station (+300). This option makes sense in one scenario and one scenario only. Trump could be arrested at the police station if he turns himself in.
Given his calls for MAGA supporters to protest his arrest, I doubt that will happen. Oddsmakers are not in favor of Trump turning himself in, either.
Will Donald Trump Turn Himself In?
- No (-500)
- Yes (+300)
Speaking of Trump potentially turning himself in, that is the subject of this wager from BetOnline. Oddsmakers are heavily favoring Donald to not turn himself in (-500).
Turning himself in would likely be seen as admitting defeat or, worse, guilt. Trump does not like to lose under normal circumstances. With the former President eyeing another run in 2024, he cannot afford to lose face now.
Oddsmakers have the “yes” option for this wager listed at +300. Normally, 3:1 odds would be a favorable wager for bettors. Personally, though, I do not think they reflect the true odds of the situation.
A felon cannot vote for the President of the United States…but they could BECOME the President of the United States.@ChrisCuomo joined me on @KnowMercyPod to talk about if Donald Trump’s pending “arrest” could actually be GOOD for him…https://t.co/fKiQLroSZe pic.twitter.com/BTmd9N424r

Even under normal circumstances, I do not think Trump would seriously consider turning himself in. It would severely hurt his ability to use the situation to his advantage in any future political campaigns.
Add in the fact that Trump has already called for protests, and it seems even more unlikely that he will turn himself in. After all, there would not be much for MAGA supporters to protest if Trump willingly submits to police custody.
Will Trump Wear a MAGA Hat During the Arrest?
- No (-500)
- Yes (+300)
The fifth and final prop bet currently available at BetOnline is whether Trump will be wearing a MAGA hat during his arrest.
I actually disagree with the oddsmakers on this one for several reasons.
BetOnline’s bookmakers have the “no hat” option listed at -500. Being arrested in your own gear would normally be bad for business, so it is easy to see why this option is favored. However, I think the “yes” option (+300) is worth considering here.
First, it would likely drive up sales from MAGA supporters. Wearing a MAGA hat could also make it easier for the Trump campaign to draw attention to a 2024 Presidential run.
The second reason is a more practical run. Being arrested, even if you are not resisting, and be a physical encounter. There is a very real chance that Trump’s trademark hair could be ruffled during the event.
Wearing a hat could prevent a bad hair day from being preserved on film. Depending on the weather during the arrest, a hat could simply make good practical sense as well.
