Taylor Swift 2028 Odds: Could Taylor Swift Run for President?
Could we see a presidential campaign from Taylor Swift in 2028? The singer has never been more popular and has not been shy about her political stances. In 2028, Swift will also finally be old enough to run for President.
Political betting sportsbooks are focused on the upcoming 2024 election for now. In just nine months, though, oddsmakers will start turning an eye toward 2028.
Keep reading to learn more about Taylor Swift’s chances of winning the 2028 presidential elections. I will break down the factors that could lead to Swift running for President. Also, I will tell you whether Swift would be a good bet to win the election.
Taylor Swift for President in 2028?
Taylor Swift has done almost everything there is to do in the music industry. She has the power, influence, and money to try her hand at any other industry. Swift’s first chance to run for President would be in 2028, but will she enter politics?
Is Taylor Swift Qualified to be President?
One of the biggest questions about Swift running for President is whether she is qualified for the position. The President of the US is one of the most powerful people in the world. However, there are surprisingly few qualifications for the office.
You have to meet the following criteria to run for President:
- Be at least 35 years of age
- Have lived in the US for 14 years
- Be a natural-born US citizen
Swift was born in West Reading, PA, and has lived in the US for over 14 years. However, she will not be 35 until this December. Swift could not run for election this year, but she will meet all the requirements to be President in time for the 2028 election.
Would Swift Run as a Democrat or Republican?
Another question surrounding Taylor Swift running for President is which party she would align with. Swift is a billionaire and has undoubtedly benefited from many republican policies. However, her past activism fits more with a left-leaning platform.
Swift has also drawn plenty of negative attention from conservatives in recent years. Some members of the far-right even believed Swift’s appearance at Super Bowl 58 meant she would endorse President Biden in 2024.
The singer refrained from making any political statements after the Chiefs won on Super Bowl Sunday. However, she has still likely lost the support of a significant portion of the GOP voter base. With all that in mind, I think Swift would either run independently or, more likely, as a Democrat.
What Would Swift’s Political Platform Look Like?
Most presidential candidates rely on a clear political platform to help them earn support from prospective voters. The platform is typically designed to align with the values of the candidate’s party.
As I mentioned above, I believe Swift will run as a Democrat if she does throw her hat in the ring in 2028. At the very least, she will likely be a left-leaning independent.
Swift’s previous activism and political stances have been anti-racism, pro-choice, and in favor of gender quality. She has even gone as far as condemning some of Trump’s policies. Depending on the political landscape in 2028, Swift’s platform would likely include progressing women’s and LGBTQ rights, codifying abortion rights, and addressing racial issues.
2028 Presidential Contenders
One of the biggest barriers to Swift winning the election in 2028 would be her political adversaries. Some of her biggest competitors for the Democratic nomination would likely include Gavin Newsom, Cory Booker, and Kamala Harris. Republicans will have plenty of candidates to choose from, including Nikki Haley, Kristi Noem, and Greg Abbott.
Gavin Newsom
Democrats did have primaries this election cycle because Joe Biden is the incumbent candidate. However, that does not mean that potential candidates for 2028 have not already started to identify themselves.

One early standout is California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Some even speculated that Newsom could replace Biden in 2024 if the President cannot run. Newsom has four years to build up his candidacy and has already started debating GOP political figureheads.
Cory Booker
Cory Booker is another candidate likely to compete with Swift for the 2028 nomination. He has served as one of the Senators from New Jersey for over a decade.
Booker attempted to run for President in the 2020 election. He qualified for the first five Democratic presidential primary debates. However, he did not meet the polling requirements for the sixth debate and withdrew in January 2020.
In the four years since, Booker has continued to be a leader in the Democratic Party. If that trend continues, he could be a strong candidate in 2028.
Kamala Harris
Biden’s Vice President, Kamala Harris, is another potential opponent Swift could face for the Democratic nomination. Harris is likely to join Biden again on the ticket in 2024.
Many VPs have attempted to run for President after their terms end. Biden himself was Vice President for eight years under President Obama. If Harris continues the trend, she could attempt her own presidential campaign in 2028.
Nikki Haley
On the Republican side, many potential candidates could oppose Swift on the ballot in 2028. Nikki Haley, for instance, has been Trump’s biggest opposition so far for the 2024 GOP nomination.
“Since I got out of the administration, I have called (Trump) out multiple times, which is why he’s upset because he thinks I’m disloyal. I’m not loyal to anyone, I don’t do that,” Nikki Haley told @craigmelvin in a TODAY exclusive. pic.twitter.com/ckCPEkk3KT

It is unlikely that Haley will upset Trump for the nomination this cycle. However, she has done plenty to improve her political stock for future elections. If Haley’s success continues, then she could parlay that into a successful run in 2028.
Kristi Noem
Kristi Noem is one of the favorites to be Trump’s VP and could be a presidential candidate herself in 2028. Noem is currently the Governor of South Dakota and would have the political experience advantage over Swift.
I think that Noem’s prospects of running in 2028 largely depend on whether she becomes Trump’s VP. The extra exposure from campaigning with Trump would boost Noem’s stock significantly. If the pair wins the election, Noem will have four years in the White House to build up her candidacy.
Greg Abbott
Another Governor who could throw their hat in the ring in 2028 is Greg Abbott. The Texas Governor has been one of Trump’s biggest supporters recently. He has also clashed with the Biden administration as of late over border issues.
The border has been one of Trump’s biggest talking points during all three of his presidential campaigns. Abbott can use a similar platform to win support from Trump voters. An endorsement from Trump would also help Abbott win support for a 2028 presidential run.
The Loser in 2024
The 2024 election is setting up to be a rematch between Trump and President Biden. Trump is favored to win in 2024, but he has a lot of legal issues to settle before then.
In theory, the loser of the 2024 election could try to run again in 2028. Both candidates would be in their 80s by then, but age has not stopped Trump or Biden so far. Trump especially would have strong support from MAGA voters who would be extra motivated after losing back-to-back elections.
Could Taylor Swift Win in 2028?
Could Taylor Swift run for President and win in 2028? The idea is not as far-fetched as it may seem. Swift is popular, has plenty of money for a campaign, and could align with a strong VP candidate to earn political support.
Popularity with Potential Voters
At its core, the US presidential election is largely a popularity contest. Swift has cultivated one of the most engaged and at times fanatical fanbases of any musician in recent history.

Swift’s popularity and influence already have some GOP members concerned about her supporting Biden in 2024. By the time 2028 rolls around, the singer could use her influence to build support for her own campaign.
Funding for a Campaign
Taylor would also have no issue raising funds for a potential “Taylor Swift 2028” campaign. She is already a billionaire and could fund part of her campaign herself. Swift could also get plenty of donations from her devoted fans.
Align With a Strong VP
One of the biggest issues that could prevent Taylor Swift from running for President is her lack of political experience. However, she could align herself with a strong VP candidate to bolster her campaign’s legitimacy.
This tactic has worked with plenty of candidates in the past. For example, Trump tapped Mike Pence as his running mate in 2016. While the two are at odds now, Pence’s decades of political experience helped to attract voters.
If Swift really wanted to swing for the fences, she could join forces with a fellow celebrity to headline the 2028 Democratic presidential ticket. What about WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson? Or Jon Stewart, perhaps? If Swift were to run, she’s have no shortage of VP options at her disposal.
Will Taylor Swift Run for President?
Whether you like her or not, there is no denying that Taylor Swift is one of the most popular singers in the world. She will turn 35 at the end of this year, and some speculate that Swift could try to run for President in 2028.
