NBA Coach of the Year Odds: Is Mark Daigneault a Lock to Win?

NBA coach of the year

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault is the clear favorite in the latest NBA Coach of the Year odds. Daigneault has led the Thunder to a top-three seed in the Western Conference. OKC will have homecourt advantage to start the playoffs, but will Daigneault be named Coach of the Year?

Keep reading to see the latest Coach of the Year odds for the NBA this season. I will break down the current odds and tell you where to find the best odds for NBA betting online.

NBA Coach of the Year Odds

Betting on NBA awards is a great way to round out your regular season betting before the playoffs start. Check out the table below for the latest Coach of the Year NBA odds, courtesy of BetUS.

Coach NBA Coach of the Year Odds Team
Mark Daigneault -300 Thunder
Chris Finch +375 Timberwolves
Jamahl Mosley +650 Magic
Joe Mazzulla +5000 Celtics

Mark Daigneault (-300)

The Thunder have been one of the most surprising teams this NBA season. OKC is one of the top-seeded teams in the West and will open the playoffs at home. A big reason for the Thunder’s improvement this season is head coach Mark Daigneault.

Daigneault has been the Thunder’s head coach since 2020, and he has been tasked with cultivating one of the youngest teams in the NBA. The experiment has been a success so far, and Daigneault has led the Thunder to a 50+ win season this year.

The team has improved its win total each year under Daigneault. However, this is the first year that the Thunder will have a winning record with Daigneault as the head coach.

This year will be OKC’s first playoff appearance under Daigneault after the team lost in the play-in tournament last season. BetUS has Daigneault listed as the -300 favorite to win the NBA Coach of the Year this season.

Chris Finch (+375)

The head coach with the best odds to upset Daigneault is Chris Finch. The Minnesota Timberwolves head coach is listed at +375 to win the Coach of the Year award this season in the NBA.

Like Daigneault, Finch has been tasked with leading a relatively young Timberwolves team with a budding future star. Finch took over the head coaching role in 2021 and has Minnesota in position to win the number one seed this season.

Winning the top seed in the West could be enough to put Finch over the top.

At the time of writing, the Timberwolves are tied for the best record in the conference with the Denver Nuggets. Even if Minnesota does not get the number one seed, they will likely still finish ahead of the Thunder in the rankings.

Finch’s candidacy could be hurt by the number of proven and experienced NBA stars on his roster. Anthony Edwards is only 22 years old, but Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns are 31 and 28 years old, respectively. The oldest starter on the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, is just 25 years old.

Jamahl Mosley (+650)

Another coach with favorable odds to win Coach of the Year is Jamahl Mosley. He has been the head coach of the Orlando Magic since 2021. The team has made consistent improvements under Mosley since he took over the head coach position.

Orlando is currently tied for the fourth-best record in the East and could secure homecourt with a strong finish to the regular season. As long as the Magic do not fall off completely, they should at least secure a spot in the playoffs without needing to compete in the play-in tournament.

Getting the Magic into the playoffs, especially with a high seed, would be a big feather in Mosley’s cap. However, the Magic have largely flown under the radar this season. Unlike OKC and Minnesota, Orlando has been out of the running for the number-one seed for weeks.

The Magic could make some noise in the actual playoffs, but I do not think Mosley will win the Coach of the Year award this year.  A good postseason run this year could bring more attention, and potentially award votes, to Orlando next year.

Joe Mazzulla (+5000)

Joe Mazzulla rounds out the top four in the NBA Coach of the Year odds. The Celtics head coach has led Boston to the best record in the NBA. The team clinched the number one seed weeks ago, but Mazzulla has not received much credit for the team’s success.

The Celtics made it to the NBA Finals just two years ago, but that was under former head coach Ime Udoka.

The team is largely the same as it was during that Finals run, and Boston’s expectations are high.

Boston also has one of the best rosters in the NBA, contributing to even higher expectations. The combination of a talented roster and championship-level expectations will likely make it impossible for Mazzulla to win Coach of the Year anytime soon.

Who Will Win NBA Coach of the Year?

Wagering on NBA futures can be a lot of fun, and the Coach of the Year award is a great option to bet on. The current NBA Coach of the Year odds have OKC’s Mark Daigneault as the betting favorite. However, I think Minnesota’s Chris Finch offers the better betting value.

Daigneault is a great candidate, but he has not locked up the award yet. If the Timberwolves can secure the number one seed, then it will be hard to deny Finch’s Coach of the Year candidacy. Dethroning the Nuggets as kings of the West should be enough to put Finch over the top.

Prediction: Chris Finch (+375)
