Have You Tried the New Mega Moolah Slots?
Mega Moolah by Microgaming goes down as one of the greatest progressive jackpot video slots of all time. This simple wildlife-themed game doesn’t offer dozens of bonus rounds, but it does offer a progressive jackpot seeded at £1 million, and it can and does often get a lot bigger than that.
I recently learned that there are now a couple of new Mega Moolah slots. Just as NetEnt released Mega Fortune Dreams as a follow-up to the original Mega Fortune slot, Microgaming has released Mega Moolah: Atlantean Treasures and Mega Moolah: Absolootly Mad.
As soon as I heard about these slots, I had to check them out. I’ve reported my findings on them here.
The Original Mega Moolah Slot
For those of you who don’t know, I’m going to write a brief Mega Moolah review here. New players will find this useful, and it could refresh your memory if you haven’t played Mega Moolah for a while. Once you understand how Mega Moolah works, you’ll clearly be able to see the differences between it and the new versions.
As you can see, the Original Mega Moolah slot has a cartoonish wildlife theme. Symbols include lions, elephants, giraffes, monkeys, and a few other animals you might expect to see in the jungle. This game has five reels and 25 paylines.
The lion symbol is important. It’s a wild symbol, so it can replace others, and if it forms part of a winning combo, the win gets doubled.
There’s also a Mega Moolah free spins feature. You trigger it by landing three scatter symbols, and you’ll get 15 free spins. All wins during the free spins feature are multiplied by 3x.
However, the “main event” with regards to Mega Moolah is the bonus wheel. This feature can trigger randomly on any spin, and once you’re in, you’re guaranteed to win one of the four progressive jackpots.
You could walk away with the Mini, Minor, or Major jackpots, and it would be a good day if you did, but the one you really want to win is the Mega Jackpot. This colossal jackpot is the reason Mega Moolah is such a famous slot game.
Mega Moolah is simple, and it can feel a little boring to play at times, but at any minute, the free spins or jackpot bonus features can trigger and get your heart pounding.
Mega Moolah: Atlantean Treasures Slot
If you think about the title of this game, it should be obvious that it’s set underwater in the ruins of the lost city of Atlantis. The graphics are much sharper than the original, with brightly-coloured starfish, seaweeds, seahorses, and a variety of fish on the reels. There are even a few neat effects, such as bubbles rising in the background. It has five reels and 10 paylines.
In this Mega Moolah game, the wild symbol is the mermaid. Unlike in the original game, the wild symbol doesn’t double wins, but it does expand to cover the reels it lands on. It can only land on the middle three reels, and like all wilds, it can replace other symbols to create wins. Expanding wilds can potentially create multiple wins on the same spin.
Each time an expanding wild symbol lands, it expands and locks in place on the reels. When it does so, the remaining reels will respin. If new wild symbols land, they’ll lock in place and respin, too. You could get up to three respins through this feature.
I’m glad to report that the Mega Moolah bonus wheel is also in play here. You’ll trigger it by collecting enough golden pearl symbols, which move from the reels to the mouth of the oyster at the side of the reels. Spin the wheel for a shot at one of four jackpots. Again, the Mega Jackpot is life-changing. At the time of writing, it was at over £2 million and growing.
I really like this version of Mega Moolah. In fact, I’d go as far as to say I like it better than the original. There’s something about the theme and the sudden jolt of excitement that comes with the expanding wilds and respins that I really enjoyed. I tip my hat to Microgaming on this one; it isn’t easy to release a sequel to a classic slot like Mega Moolah and do it better.
Mega Moolah: Absolootly Mad Slot
The first thing that caught my attention about this Mega Moolah slot machine is that it has the standard five reels, but it has 243 ways to win. It has an Alice in Wonderland theme with a gold pocket watch, a white rabbit cake, a secret doorway, teacups with sugar cubes, and tophat symbols on the reels, among others.
In this slot, the gold coin with the top hat on it is the wild symbol. It can appear on the middle three reels only, and it can replace any other symbol. You collect wild symbols in a teapot at the top of the reels. Every time this occurs, after the reels stop rolling, there’s a chance that the progressive jackpot bonus wheel will trigger. The more wilds you collect, the greater your chances of entering this round become.
This slot has a few cool features:
- First, it has the rolling reels feature. Each time you make a winning combo, the symbols that created it will vanish, and new symbols will fall in from above to replace them.
- There’s also a progressive multiplier that gets bigger with each roll of the reels. In the base game, it starts at x1 and can climb to x5. In the free spins feature, it can go all the way up to x15.
- You trigger the free spins feature by landing three or more free spins symbols. You’ll get eight free spins for each way you triggered the feature.
Of course, the main attraction is the jackpot bonus wheel; it wouldn’t be a Mega Moolah slot without that! You trigger it by collecting wilds, as I said above, and when you do, you’ll spin the wheel for one of four progressive jackpots. Cross all your fingers and toes that you win the Mega Jackpot.

I’m aware that I’ve covered a lot of information here, so I thought it would be useful to summarize everything in a handy table for you. Here’s how the Mega Moolah slot games measure up against each other.

No matter what Mega Moolah slot game you play, you have the chance to become an instant millionaire, and that’s what this infamous progressive slot is all about.
However, it’s nice to have a few different roads to travel down towards this elusive destination. The original Mega Moolah slot was getting a little old, and Microgaming has released two absolutely cracking slots to make things more interesting again.
Now that you know how the new Mega Moolah games work, the only questions left to answer is, what one will you play first?
