Washington Player Props

The Washington Huskies finished this season a perfect 13-0, which was good enough to be second in the CFP rankings. They also beat the Oregon Ducks twice en route to winning the Pac-12 this season. Here are my favorite CFB player props for Washington in the Sugar Bowl.

Dillon Johnson TD Props

  • 1 or more TDs (-167)
  • At least 2 TDs (+300)
  • 3 or more TDs (+1700)

Dillon Johnson has had a breakout season in his first year with the Huskies. He transferred to Washington after three years at Mississippi State. The move proved to be the correct one, as Johnson had his first 1,000-yard season as a rusher.

He also has 14 rushing TDs this season, including eight in his last five games. Washington will need another big game from its star RB to overcome the Longhorns in this semi-final game.

Johnson is listed at -250 to be an anytime TD scorer in Bovada’s latest CFP odds for this game. However, you can get better odds by betting on Johnson in his total TD markets. There, he is listed at -167 to score at least one TD in this game.

Washington’s RB is also available at +300 to score twice and +1700 to have the hat trick against Texas. Both rushing and receiving TDs would count toward Johnson’s total in this wager. However, he has not had any receiving TDs so far this season.

If he were more of a threat in the passing game, then I would probably bet on Johnson to have multiple TDs. But he has only scored on the ground this season, and I do not know if he can get multiple rushing TDs against the Longhorns. So, I suggest sticking with the one TD option for -167 odds.

Prediction:

Dillon Johnson has at least one TD (-167)

Michael Penix Jr. Passing TD Props

  • 2 or more passing TDs (-334)
  • At least 3 passing TDs (+125)
  • 4 or more passing TDs (+280)
  • Over 2.5 passing TDs (+115)
  • Under 2.5 passing TDs (-150)

Another player that needs to have a big game for the Huskies to advance to the National Championship game is QB Michael Penix Jr. The sixth-year QB has one last chance at glory in college before going to the NFL.

Penix continued his breakout season from last year in his second year with the Huskies. He has had his second straight year with at least 4,200 passing yards and a career-high 33 passing TDs this season.

Football betting sites have Penix listed at over/under 2.5 passing TDs for this game. The over is available at +115 odds. However, I would suggest betting on his total TD odds instead.

Penix is listed at +125 to have at least three passing TDs against Texas. He would need three or more to cover the over on 2.5 passing TDs. He is listed at -334 to have at least two passing TDs, though.

The under on 2.5 passing TDs offers -150 payout odds. So, I would stick with the traditional over/under if you think he has two or fewer TDs. He has not had more than two passing TDs in the same game since the end of October, and I do not think that streak will end against Texas.

Prediction:

Michael Penix Jr has under 2.5 passing TDs (-150)

Ja’Lynn Polk Over 50.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

There will also be a lot of pressure on Washington’s wide receivers to step up in the Sugar Bowl. Rome Odunze is their best receiving option, but the future first-round pick will draw a lot of attention from the Longhorns’ defense.

WRs like Ja’Lynn Polk will need to step up for the Huskies to continue their winning streak. Polk is listed at over/under 50.5 receiving yards in the last college football playoff odds at Bovada.

Polk has had at least 52 receiving yards in all but three games this season. However, the concerning part about his wager is that Polk was held without a catch in two of the Huskies’ last three games.

I think that Polk will be involved in the offense next week against Texas. There is only one game this season where Polk has caught a pass and been held under 50.5 yards. So, I would take the over on this total receiving yards bet for Polk in the Sugar Bowl.

Prediction:

Ja’Lynn Polk over 50.5 receiving yards (-115)

Texas Player Props

The other half of this year’s Sugar Bowl matchup is the Texas Longhorns. Texas is led by third-year QB Quinn Ewers and finished the regular season with a 12-1 record. Here are my picks for the best CFB player props for the Longhorns in this CFP semi-final matchup.

CJ Baxter Under 81.5 Rushing Yards (-114)

The Longhorns lost lead RB Jonathon Brooks for the season in their win over TCU in November. Brooks tore his ACL, ending his breakout season and taking a big weapon away from the Texas offense. He had accounted for 1,425 scrimmage yards this year prior to his injury.

Texas has been forced to rely on CJ Baxter since Brooks has been knocked out for the year. Baxter had his first 100-yard rushing game against Iowa State in his first game as the lead back. However, he has just 22 rushes for 88 yards in two starts since.

Sports betting sites have Baxter listed at over/under 81.5 rushing yards for this matchup with the Huskies. The Freshman RB can hit the over if he gets enough touches. But I do not think he will get enough carries to reach 82 rushing yards, so I would take the under on this wager.

Prediction:

CJ Baxter under 81.5 rushing yards (-114)

Quinn Ewers Over 287.5 Passing Yards (-115)

QB Quinn Ewers has played well in his second season with the Longhorns. Ewers has racked up 3,161 passing yards and 21 passing TDs this season. He finished the Big-12 Championship Game with 452 passing yards and four passing TDs in the 49-21 win over Oklahoma State.

That game was a bit of an outlier for Ewers, though. Bovada has Ewers listed at over/under 287.5 passing yards in the Sugar Bowl. He has hit the over on that number just twice in his last five games.

Washington’s defense has also only allowed two QBs to pass for more than 287.5 yards in their last five games. However, I think that Ewers and the offense will have to pass the ball more with their top RB out of the game.

With that in mind, I lean toward the over on this total passing yards prop bet. Ewers and the offense have had weeks to prepare and should be able to move the ball against Washington early on.

Prediction:

Quinn Ewers over 287.5 passing yards (-115)

Xavier Worthy Anytime TD Scorer (-230)

Rounding out my list of the best CFB player props for the Longhorns in their Sugar Bowl appearance is for Xavier Worthy to score a TD. The talented WR is listed at -230 in anytime TD betting markets

Worthy has had a career-low five receiving TDs this season. However, Texas will need to put up points to keep up with Washington’s offense. The Huskies can score a lot of points when their offense is clicking on all cylinders.

At -230 odds, Worthy has the same odds in this market as his teammate WR Adonai Mitchell. Mitchel has 10 receiving TDs and should draw a lot of attention from Washington’s defense. With that in mind, I think Worthy is the better pick and would bet on him with this CFB player props wager.
