Athletics Events Odds and Picks
There are tons of athletics, also known as track and field, events at the Olympics. The 100-meter dash events are among the most exciting to watch. These races are equally as exciting to bet on.
Men’s 100-Meter Dash
- Kishane Thompson – JAM (+125)
- Noah Lyles – USA (+200)
- Oblique Seville – JAM (+650)
- Letsile Tebogo – BOT (+1200)
- Lamont Marcell Jacobs – ITA (+1200)
The Men’s 100-meter dash is one of the highlights of the Olympic Athletics competitions. Oddsmakers have Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson as the +125 favorite. The next closest sprinter is Noah Lyles (USA) at +200.
It could be a two-man race, as the odds fade significantly after Thompson and Lyles. Oblique Servile (JAM) has the third-best odds at +650. Letsile Tebogo (BOT) and 2020 gold medalist Lamont Marcell Jacobs (ITA) round out the top five at +1200 each.
Lyles won bronze in the 100-meter dash three years ago, but I do not think he can bet Thompson. Thompson is competing in his first Olympics, but he has a faster personal best in this event than Lyles. I would bet on the favorite in this market.
Prediction: Kishane Thompson – JAM wins the Men’s 100-meter dash (+125)
Women’s 100-Meter Dash
- Sha’Carri Richardson – USA (-200)
- Shericka Jackson – JAM (+400)
- Julien Alfred – LCA (+700)
- Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce – JAM (+800)
- Melissa Jefferson – USA (+1400)
Similarly, there is a clear favorite in the Women’s 100M dash. Sha’Carri Richardson (USA) is listed as the -200 favorite, significantly ahead of the next closest sprinter, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson (+400). Jackson won the bronze in Tokyo, finishing behind Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Richardson missed the Tokyo Olympics due to a cannabis-related suspension. She will make her Olympics debut this year and recently won gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Belgium. She has plenty of motivation, and I think Richardson will bring home the gold for the US.
Prediction: Sha’Carri Richardson – USA wins the Women’s 100-meter dash (-200)
Swimming Events Odds and Picks
There are also exciting odds for the Olympic Games swimming events. For instance, you can wager on the men’s and women’s 100-meter freestyle events.
Men’s 100M Freestyle
- Pan Zhanle – CHN (-125)
- David Popovici – ROU (+225)
- Jack Alexy – USA (+500)
- Kyle Chalmers – AUS (+750)
- Chris Guiliano – USA (+1000)
BetOnline has China’s Pan Zhanle as the -125 favorite to take home the gold in the 2024 men’s 100-meter freestyle event. Earlier this year, he set the world record in this event at the 2024 World Swimming Championships. Romania’s David Popovici has the second-best odds at +225, and American Jack Alexy rounds out the top three at +500.
Popovici is the only swimmer in the top three with previous Olympic experience. Beating a world record holder is easier said than done, but I think Popovici’s previous experience will give him an advantage.
Prediction: David Popovici – ROU wins the Men’s 100-meter freestyle (+225)
Women’s 100M Freestyle
- Mollie O’Callaghan – AUS (+125)
- Siobhan Haughey – HKG (+175)
- Marrit Steenbergen – NED (+550)
- Shayna Jack – AUS (+1000)
- Kate Douglass – USA (+1100)
The Women’s 100-meter freestyle is shaping up to be a two-woman race. Mollie O’Callaghan (AUS) and Siobhan Haughey (HKG) are listed at +125 and +175, respectively. Marriott Steenbergen is a distant third at +550.
Haughey won silver at the 2020 Olympics, coming in second to Australian Emma McKeon’s record-setting performance. Australians largely dominated the women’s swimming events in Tokyo, but I think a motivated Haughey will break that trend and upset O’Callaghan.
Prediction: Siobhan Haughey – HKG wins the Women’s 100-meter freestyle (+175)
Olympic Soccer Odds and Picks
Soccer is one of the few truly global sports, so it should come as no surprise that it is one of the most popular Olympic sports. Here are the latest Olympic betting odds for men’s and women’s soccer.
Men’s Soccer Gold
- France (+250)
- Argentina (+275)
- Spain (+300)
- Morocco (+1000)
- Ukraine (+1800)
France is the host country for the 2024 Olympics, and the French team has the best betting odds for Olympic gold in men’s soccer. They are listed at +250, slightly ahead of Argentina (+275). Spain, the silver medalist in 2021, is a close third at +300, while Morocco (+1000) and Ukraine (+1800) are a distant fourth and fifth, respectively.
It is a tight race at the top, but I think the home-field advantage will be enough to motivate France to win its first Olympic gold in this event since 1984. Argentina won the gold in 2004 and 2008 but has not won an Olympic medal since. Spain, on the other hand, has not won gold since it hosted the Olympics in 1992.
Prediction: France wins the gold in Men’s soccer (+250)
Women’s Soccer Gold
- USA (+200)
- Spain (+250)
- France (+500)
- Germany (+1200)
- Brazil (+1400)
- Japan (+1400)
In the Women’s tournament, Team USA is the +200 favorite. Spain (+250) is a close second, with France rounding out the top three at +500. The US has won medals in this event in six of the seven Olympics since 1996. They have made the finals in six of those years, winning five golds.
However, the US has failed to make the finals in each of the last two Olympics. Sweden, Canada, and Germany, the most consistent challengers to the US in recent years, either did not qualify or have taken steps back in recent years. With those countries out of the way, it is hard to bet against the US this year.
Prediction: USA wins the gold in Women’s soccer (+200)
Olympic Basketball Odds and Picks
Basketball is another one of the most popular Olympic sports. Here are the latest Olympics odds for men’s and women’s basketball.
Men’s Basketball Gold
- USA (-550)
- France (+850)
- Canada (+1100)
- Serbia (+1600)
- Germany (+2500)
- Greece (+2500)
The US has largely dominated basketball at the Olympics for the last three decades. So, it is not surprising that oddsmakers have the US listed at -550 favorites in the latest basketball Olympic odds. France is the closest contender at +850.
It should be another clear path to the gold for the American team. This year’s roster is loaded with stars, including first-time US Olympians Steph Curry and Joel Embiid. I believe American dominance on the basketball court will continue, at least for now.
Prediction: USA wins gold in Men’s basketball (-550)
Women’s Basketball Gold
- USA (-1250)
- Australia (+2000)
- China (+2000)
- France (+2500)
- Belgium (+2500)
The women’s Olympic basketball odds favor the US even more. BetOnline has the US team listed as the -1250 favorite to win gold in Paris. Australia and China are tied for the second-best odds at +2000.
Men’s teams across the globe may be catching up with the US, but the same cannot be said for women’s basketball. The US women’s team has not lost a game in the Olympics since 1992 and has not lost a game in any tournament since 2006. Even without rookie sensation Caitlin Clark, the US team should roll to its 10th gold medal in the last 11 Olympics.
Prediction: USA wins gold in Women’s basketball (-1250)
