2024 Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds and Pick
For the first time in a long time, Joey Chestnut is not the favorite in the Nathan’s Not Dog Eating Contest odds. The 16-time champion has been banned from the event his year. The shocking ban also means that we are guaranteed a new winner in this year’s contest.
This guide will break down the latest hot dog eating contest 2024 odds for Nathan’s annual contest. I will break down the odds on the top competitors and tell you my favorite prop bets. Also, I will give you my entertainment betting predictions for this event.
Joey Chestnut Banned From the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
First and foremost, why is Joey Chestnut not competing in Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest this year? Chestnut has won 16 of the last 17 contests. However, he has been banned from this year’s event due to a new sponsorship deal.
Chestnut signed a deal with Impossible Foods, a food company that makes meat alternatives for vegans and vegetarians. As part of the agreement. Chestnut was going to promote Impossible Foods during the event. The company is a direct competitor of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, and the latter decided to ban Chestnut from the competition as a result of the deal.
Updated Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds
With Chestnut out of the competition, the door is wide open for a new champion. Check out the table below to see the latest Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds, courtesy of BetUS Sportsbook.
Contestant | Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds | 2023 Results |
James Webb | -130 | 47 hot dogs |
Geoffrey Esper | -110 | 49 hot dogs |
Bartley Weaver IV | +800 | 41 hot dogs |
Nick Wehry | +1000 | 45 hot dogs |
Gideon Oji | +1800 | 36 hot dogs |
You can also wager on the winner of the women’s competition. However, reigning champion Miki Sudo is a -5000 favorite, and there is no reason to doubt her continued dominance in this event. So, there is not nearly as much value in the women’s competition compared to this year’s men’s contest.
James Webb (-130)
The favorite to win the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is James Webb. He is listed at -130 in the latest Hot Dog Eating Contest betting odds.
Webb is relatively new to the competitive eating scene and has only been competing professionally since 2021. Despite his inexperience, Webb already holds several world records, including 350 Jack’s donut holes in eight minutes, 338 pistachios in eight minutes, and 224 chicken wings in 10 minutes
Webb has set six records this year alone. The pistachios record is especially noteworthy, as Webb was competing against Chestnut in the event. Webb’s speed at downing Texas sausages could give insight into his performance at Nathan’s this year.
Geoffrey Esper (-110)
Another competitor with favorable odds in the current Hot Dog Eating Contest odds for 2024 is Geoffrey Esper. He is listed at -110 and is the only person other than Webb not to have plus-money odds for this year’s competition.
Esper has nearly 20 world records to his name and came in second in last year’s contest. He ate 49 hot dogs, 13 dogs behind Chestnut. Esper was two full dogs ahead of Webb, 47, and a repeat performance could secure him the win this year.
Despite beating Webb each of the last two years and holding more records, Esper is second to Webb in the odds. His age may play a factor, but the 49-year-old Esper has not slowed down yet.
Bartley Weaver IV (+800)
The eater with the third-best Hot Dog Eating Contest betting odds is Bertley Weaver IV. Weaver is listed at +800, making him a distant third to Esper and Webb.
Weaver made his name as a bodybuilder before transitioning to competitive eating. He finished fifth overall last year in the men’s competition, eating 41 hot dogs in the 10-minute time limit. Despite his relative inexperience, Weaver’s hot start has him ranked seventh in the world and sixth overall among men.
Nick Wehry (+1000)
Up next is Nick Wehry, the fourth-ranked eater in the world. Wehry is the third-highest-ranked male eater, coming in just behind women’s eating legend Miki Sudo.
Wehry is listed at +1000 in the latest Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds. He is behind both Webb and Weaver, despite being ranked higher than both of them. Wehry ate 45 hot dogs last year, his best performance in the last three years.
There is no doubt that Wehry will have to beat his total from last year to have a realistic shot at winning. Webb (47) and Esper (49) both finished ahead of Wehry last year.
Gideon Oji (+1800)
Rounding out the top five in the 2024 Hot Dog Eating Contest odds is Gideon Oji. At 6’9, the former basketball player is hard to miss at any eating competition he attends. Oji came in sixth last year, eating 36 hot dogs in the 10-minute time limit.
He finished 28 hot dogs behind Chestnut in 2023, but Oji cannot be counted out of the competition this year. Oji was 6.25 hot dogs ahead of the next competitor last year, and he has had a whole year to train. On the other hand, Oji will need to increase his total by 50% to have a chance at the top spot.
Who Will Win the Hot Dog Eating Contest?
Picking a Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest winner not named Joey Chestnut feels unnatural. With Chestnut barred from competition, though, we are guaranteed a new champion this year.
Of all the competitive eaters listed above, I think Geoffrey Esper (-110) is the best bet. He has consistently been among the top finishers behind Chestnut in recent years. Esper will face stiff competition from Webb, but I think the chance to claim a Nathan’s yellow belt at this point in his career will help motivate Esper to the victory.
Prediction: Geoffrey Esper wins the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest (-110)
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Prop Bets
In addition to betting on the outright winner, BetUS also offers the chance to wager on exciting prop bets for this eating contest. Here are the Hot Dog Eating Contest odds for three of my favorite prop wagers.
Geoffrey Esper Over/Under 48.5 Total Hot Dogs
- Over 48.5 total hot dogs (-110)
- Under 48.5 total hot dogs (-130)
Esper is my pick to win the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. He came in second last year with 49 hot dogs and is currently second in the Major League Eating rankings. Esper also has the highest total project at over/under 48.5 hot dogs.
He covered the over just barely last year by half a hot dog. I think the absence of Chestnut will put a target on Esper’s back and motivate him to go for a personal best in this event. With that in mind. I will take the over on Esper’s total consumed hot dogs.
Prediction: Geoffrey Esper eats over 48.5 hot dogs (-110)
Total Hot Dogs Eaten By the Men’s Winner
- Over 50.5 hot dogs (-115)
- Under 50.5 hot dogs (-125)
Sports betting sites also have odds on the total number of hot dogs eaten by the winner. The total is set at over/under 50.5 hot dogs. As I mentioned above, Esper has the highest projected total of any competitor at over/under 48.5 hot dogs.
Esper is my pick to win, and he would only need to eat two more hot dogs to cover the over in this bet. Also, I think it is reasonable to assume that you will need more than 50 hot dogs to beat Esper. I would take the over in this bet at -115 odds.
Prediction: The men’s winner eats over 50.5 hot dogs (-115)
Combined Total Hot Dogs Eating By Men’s and Women’s Winners
- Over 91.5 hot dogs (-110)
- Under 91.5 hot dogs (-130)
You can also wager on the combined total of the men’s and women’s winners. Esper is listed at over/under 48.5 hot dogs, and Miki Sudo, the overwhelming women’s favorite, is listed at over/under 42.5 hot dogs. I believe Esper will get to at least 51 and Sudo will cover her total, so I would take the over in this bet.
Prediction: Men’s and Women’s winners combine for over 91.5 hot dogs (-110)
