Politics Props: Betting on Trump Cabinet Appointments
The new politics props post-election are the best way to bet on Donald Trump’s first actions as president. You can wager on everything from Trump’s choice for the US Attorney General to his VA Secretary appointee. The people in these roles will have a significant influence over Trump’s presidency for the next four years.
This guide will break down the opening Trump cabinet appointment odds at top political betting sites. I will break down the latest markets and make predictions based on the latest betting market trends.
BetUS Sportsbook provided the following odds for Trump’s cabinet in 2024.
Odds for U.S. Attorney General Appointment
- Mike Lee (+115)
- John Ratcliffe (+200)
- Will Levi (+800)
- Jeff Clark (+900)
- Eric Schmitt (+900)
The U.S. Attorney General is the head of the Department of Justice and acts as the president’s lawyer. Donald Trump knows the importance of a good lawyer better than most presidents-elect. During his first presidency, Trump had half a dozen Attorneys General, including William Barr and Jeff Sessions.
None of Trump’s previous AGs are expected to be nominated this time around. Mike Lee, a Senator from Utah, is the betting favorite at +115. John Ratcliffe, who briefly served as the Director of National Intelligence under Trump, has the second-best odds at +200. Will Levi (+800), Jeff Clark (+900), and Eric Schmitt (+900) round out the top five.
This race comes down to the two favorites, Lee and Ratcliffe. Both are referenced in Project 2025, and Lee’s work on the Protecting Life in Foreign Assistance Act is directly mentioned. Also, Ratcliffe was recently announced as Trump’s pick to be the Director of the CIA, leaving the door open for Lee to be the next AG.
- Prediction: Mike Lee +115
Odds for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Appointment
- Kip Tom (+250)
- Sid Miller (+400)
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (+800)
- Ted McKinney (+900)
The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture oversees agriculture programs throughout the country. Some departments’ offices include the Food Stamp Program, the US Food Safety and Inspection Service, and the US Forest Service. In his first term, Trump appointed Sonny Perdue to the role.
Kip Tom (+250) is the betting favorite to be Trump’s U.S. Secretary of Agriculture in his second term. Tom was the US Ambassador to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture under Trump. Sid Miller, the Texas Agriculture Commissioner, has the second-best odds at +400.
Many people involved with Trump’s first presidency have disavowed him in the years since. Tom is an exception, and I think Trump will reward him for his loyalty by nominating him to be the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
- Prediction: Kip Tom +250
Odds for U.S. Secretary of Commerce Appointment
- Linda McMahon (-450)
- Robert Lighthizer (+300)
- Bill Hagerty (+600)
The Secretary of Commerce advises the president on all matters of commerce. Trump’s economic plan involves significantly rising US prices through excessive tariffs, so his Secretary of Commerce will be busy.
Linda McMahon, yes THAT Linda McMahon, is the betting favorite to be the next Secretary of Commerce at -450. Linda and her husband, Vince McMahon, have been friends and supporters of Trump for years. However, Vince is under investigation for his involvement in a sex trafficking scandal.
Trump has enough of his own sexual misconduct allegations to deal with, and appointing Linda McMahon to his cabinet will only draw more attention to them. Robert Lighthizer was Trump’s U.S. Trade Representative during his first administration and is already working on the president-elect’s tariff plan. Lighthizer is the best bet in this politics props market.
- Prediction: Robert Lighthizer +300
Odds for U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Appointment
- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (-150)
- Bobby Jindal (+250)
- Eric Hargan (+700)
- Ben Carson (+800)
- Brian Blase (+900)
As head of the US Department of Health and Human Services, the Secretary advises the president on public health matters. RFK Jr. joined the Trump campaign after he was promised a role in Trump’s cabinet to help promote his vaccine conspiracy theories.
BetUS lists RFK Jr. as the -150 favorite for this position. Bobby Jindal is the next-closest at +250, and Eric Hargan is a distant third at +700.
Hargan briefly served in this role during the first Trump administration, but I think this is RFK Jr.’s job to lose. Trump will put RFK in his cabinet. How effective RFK Jr. will be in creating regulations when the GOP pushes for deregulation wherever possible is yet to be seen.
- Prediction: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. -150
Odds for U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Appointment
- Ben Carson (-125)
- Brian Montgomery (+400)
- Tim Scott (+800)
BetUS only lists three contenders for the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The head of HUD, in theory, is supposed to support community development and promote home ownership in the US. Ben Carson held this position in Trump’s first term, and he is the -125 favorite to be nominated for it again.
I think Brian Montgomery (+400) is the better option. He was the Deputy HUD Secretary briefly under Trump and the acting HUD secretary briefly under Obama.
- Prediction: Brian Montgomery +400
Odds for U.S. Secretary of Labor Appointment
- Bryan Slater (-110)
- Patrick Pizzella (+300)
Bryan Slater (-110) and Patrick Pizzella (+300) are the two options in the current U.S. Secretary of Labor political props market. The appointee will be charged with addressing legislation for the workplace, unions, and business-person interactions.
Pizzella held this position for nearly three months during the first Trump administration. His term fell between two other Trump appointees, Alexander Acosta and Eugene Scalia. Pizzella had his chance, and I think Trump will go with Slater this time around.
- Prediction: Bryan Slater -110
Odds for U.S. Secretary of the Interior Appointment
- Katharine MacGregor (-200)
- David Bernhardt (+200)
- Cynthia Lummis (+600)
- Doug Burgum (+500)
The U.S. Secretary of the Interior manages federal land and natural resources. In his previous term, Trump had two main appointees in this role: Ryan Zinke (March 2017 to January 2019) and David Bernhardt (January 2019 to January 2021). Bernhardt is a contender this time around, but his +200 odds are second to Katharine MacGregor (-200).
MacGregor was the Deputy Secretary of the Interior for over a year under Trump. She succeeded Bernhardt for that position when he was promoted to Secretary of the Interior. MacGregor is the favorite and the best bet to be appointed as the new U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
- Prediction: Katharine MacGregor -200
Odds for U.S. Secretary of Transportation Appointment
- Garret Graves (-120)
- Sam Graves (-120)
Sam Graves and Garret Graves are the frontrunners to be Trump’s nominee for the U.S. Secretary of Transportation. As the name implies, the nominee will be in charge of advising Trump on all transportation-related matters. Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnell’s wife, served in this role for most of Trump’s previous term.
Both Graves are listed at -120 in the latest odds, and I think Sam will be the next Secretary of Transportation. Sam is the current Chair of the House Transportation Committee and promoting him is the logical choice.
- Prediction: Sam Graves -120
Odds for U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Appointment
- Robert Wilkie (-150)
- Tulsi Gabbard (+100)
- Matt Rosendale (+600)
Last but not least, secure sports betting sites list Robert Wilkie as the -150 favorite to be the next U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs. The Secretary of the VA is tasked with managing veterans’ health care and other benefits, as well as national memorials and cemeteries for veterans.
Wilkie is the favorite, but Tulsi Gabbard (+100) is a better bet. Like RFK, Gabbard left the Democratic party and eventually joined the Trump campaign. Trump will try to find a place for Gabbard in his cabinet.
- Prediction: Tulsi Gabbard +100
