Jaguars coach Doug Pederson is officially on the hot seat after the team’s 0-4 start, and he is currently the favorite in the latest first coach fired odds. The good news for Pederson is that he is not the only head coach struggling this season.

This football betting guide highlights the first head coach fired odds for the 2024 NFL season. I break down the current odds at the best NFL sportsbooks and give my predictions for which coach will be fired first this season.

Doug Pederson (+100)

Before the season, Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan called this year’s team the best in franchise history. Since then, Jacksonville has started 0-4, and the high preseason expectations only add to the pressure on Doug Pederson.

No coach who starts 0-4 can be confident in their job security, and Pederson is no exception. If you include last season, the Jaguars have lost nine of their last 10 regular season games. Their collapse last season cost them a spot in the playoffs.

If Pederson cannot turn the Jaguars’ season around, he will almost certainly be replaced. The bigger question is whether he will be fired mid-season and, if so, when.

Nick Sirianni (+600)

Nick Sirianni is another coach on the hot seat this season. Like Pederson and the Jaguars, Sirianni led the Eagles to a great start last season. However, Philadelphia fell apart in the second half of the season.

The Eagles did make the playoffs, but they were blown out by the Buccaneers. Many of the same issues from last season, including a blowout loss to Tampa Bay, have resurfaced this year. Philadelphia is 2-2, but they have a long way to go to live up to their Super Bowl expectations.

There is plenty of talent on Philadelphia’s roster, so finding a replacement for Sirianni would not be challenging. However, I doubt Philly will move on from Sirianni as long as the team has a chance to make the playoffs this season.

Mike McCarthy (+600)

Speaking of 2-2 teams in the NFC East, Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys’ head coach, is also listed at 6-1 odds to be the first head coach fired this season. Dallas has lost twice this season in embarrassing fashion. To make matters worse, their losses have all come at home.

McCarthy’s job will be even more difficult going forward with players on both sides of the ball, including Micah Parsons, already injured. Dallas also faces a tough schedule in the coming weeks, including games at Pittsburgh, against Detroit, and at San Francisco.

The silver lining for McCarthy is that Jerry Jones, the Cowboys owner, does not have a history of firing coaches mid-season. He is also in the last year of his contract, so Dallas can move on from McCarthy after this year if the team does not turn their season around.

Brian Daboll (+800)

Brian Daboll is the third NFC East coach to appear in the top four of the next head coach fired odds. Bovada has Daboll listed at +800 to be the first head coach fired this season.

The Giants made the playoffs in Daboll’s first season, but they finished 6-11 last season. Their poor performance has continued this year, and they are 1-3 through the first month of the season. The offense has looked better, though, and Daboll is doing the best anyone could with the talent on the roster.

New York was also featured on Hard Knocks in the spring, so it is no secret that they wanted to move on from quarterback Daniel Jones. Daboll could be safe for another year if the front office pins the team’s troubles on their QB instead of their head coach.

Robert Saleh (+900)

Questions have also been raised about the other NYC head coach. Jets’ coach Robert Saleh is listed just behind Daboll at +900 in the updated NFL first coach fired odds 2024. Saleh has led the Jets to a 2-2 start this season, but his relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the more significant concern.

Rodgers and Saleh have butted heads on multiple occasions during their short time together. Winning could help diffuse much of the tension currently surrounding the Jets. However, that is easier said than done, given their upcoming schedule.

New York takes on Minnesota (4-0) this week at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The Jets opted not to have a bye after their trip across the bond, and they will host the Bills in Week 6. After facing Buffalo, the Jets have to play the Steelers and Patriots before finishing October against the Texans on Halloween.

The Jets have already beaten New England once this year and should beat them again. However, they could easily lose their matchups in October. Saleh could be out of a job if New York is not above .500 by the end of the month.

Dennis Allen (+1000)

Two coaches are listed at 10-1 to be the first NFL coaches fired this season. The first is the Saints’ head coach, Dennis Allen. Allen’s job looked secure after the team started 2-0 by outscoring their opponents 91-29.

Despite the hot start, the Saints now sit at 2-2 and could fall below .500. New Orleans takes on the Chiefs (4-0) in Kansas City on Monday Night Football. The Saints are 18-20 under Allen, who took over the team ahead of the 2022 season.

New Orleans’ schedule the rest of the way does not do Allen any favors, either. They get to play another game against the Panthers and visit the Giants in early December. However, the Saints also have to play Washington (3-1), Green Bay (2-2), Falcons (3-2), and the Buccaneers (3-2), twice.

Kevin Stefanski (+1000)

Kevin Stefanski is the other coach listed at +1000 to be the first coach fired this year. Stefanski won Coach of the Year at the NFL Awards last season, and he also won it in 2020, his first year with the Browns. He is 38-33 as Cleveland’s coach, and the browns have made the playoffs twice with Stefanski at the helm.

Stefanski led the Browns to the postseason last year despite the team starting five different quarterbacks. His task this season is more challenging: finding a way to win with Deshaun Watson under center. Watson was 5-1 as a starter last season before a shoulder injury knocked him out for the year.

It is Watson’s third year in Cleveland, and he is 9-7 as a starter but has never started more than six games in a season for the Browns. If Stefanski can get serviceable play out of Watson, then Cleveland could make another playoff run. Otherwise, Cleveland’s front office could clear house after the year.

First Coach Fired Prediction

The season is only a month old, but several coaches are already on the hot seat. Doug Pederson (+100) has the shortest odds to be the first coach fired after the Jaguars’ 0-4 start. Jacksonville is the only team not to win a game this season and is a long shot to make the playoffs.

Pederson is listed at even money in this wager, but the next closest coaches are Nick Sirianni and Mike McCarthy. The NFC East rival coaches are both available at 6:1, making them distant seconds to Pederson.

Jacksonville’s schedule only gets more challenging in October and November. Based on their play so far, I doubt that Pederson will make it to Thanksgiving as the team’s head coach.

The Jaguars are not the only bad team in the league, but he does not have the excuses of other coaches of bad teams. He has plenty of coaching experience and has spent over two years establishing his culture in Jacksonville. With that in mind, I think Pederson will be fired sooner rather than later and is destined to be the first coach fired this year.
