Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya UFC 305 Odds

DDP claimed the UFC Middleweight Championship from Sean Strickland at UFC 297. He won via split decision, extending his UFC record to 7-0. Du Plessis will face a tough test in his first defense, taking on two-time UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

Dricus Du Plessis (c)Over 4.5 rounds (+100)-115
Israel AdesanyaUnder 4.5 rounds (-130)-115

Dricus Du Plessis (-115)

The UFC Middleweight belt has not stayed with one champion for very long as of late. DDP won the belt from Sean Strickland at UFC 297 in Strickland’s first title defense. Strickland had just won the belt at UFC 293, defeating Adesanya in his first defense after winning the belt back at UFC 287.

Adesanya had lost the belt to Alex Pereira at UFC 281 but won the rematch by knockout. DDP will attempt to end the streak of unsuccessful first title defenses this weekend. He is tied with Adesanya at -115, making this fight a true pick’em.

Fighting Adesanya in his first title defense is a tough draw for DDP. However, DDP will also be a tough test for Adesanya at this stage of his career. The champion is 7-0 in the UFC and has finished five of his seven opponents in the Octagon.

Of his 19 career finishes, DDP has knocked out nine opponents and submitted 10. If the fight stays on the feet, then DDP could be at a slight disadvantage against Style Bender. However, the champion should have a clear advantage on the ground.

Israel Adesanya (-115)

In his prime, Israel Adesanya was the clear best fighter at 185 pounds and a dominant champion. However, after starting his career 20-0, Adesanya lost to Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 when he challenged for the UFC Light Heavyweight title. He is also just 1-2 in his last three fights, losing the UFC Middleweight title both times.

At 35, Adesanya is not as menacing as he was in his prime. However, he also has more experience than most other fighters in the division. This will be his 11th consecutive fight with UFC gold on the line, dating back to his interim title win at UFC 236.

Two of the three losses in Adesanya’s career have come via decision. He and DDP also appear to have serious, personal issues with one another. With that in mind, I think we could see a more aggressive Adesanya this weekend than we have seen in some of his recent fights.

Adesanya has also had nearly a year to recover from his decision loss to Stickland at UFC 293 last September. A well-rested and focused Adesanya will be challenging for anyone to stop, even DDP.

Over/Under 4.5 Rounds

  • Over 4.5 rounds (+100)
  • Under 4.5 rounds (-130)

Sports betting sites have awesome UFC 305 prop odds for the main event as well. For instance, you can wager on the total number of rounds in Du Plessis vs. Adesanya. The championship fight is scheduled for five rounds, but with 35 combined finishes in their career, there is no guarantee DDP and Adesanya will go the distance.

DDP has stopped five of his seven opponents in the UFC, but he just edged past Stickland in a split decision at UFC 297. Adesanya is a great striker, but he has only finished one of his last seven opponents. It is also common for two high-level strikers to be more tentative than normal when facing each other, which tends to lead to longer fights.

UFC 305 Predictions

There are five exciting main card fights scheduled for the UFC 305 fight card this weekend. Here are my predictions for every main card fight this Saturday.

Carlos Prates (-370) vs. Li Jingliang (+270)

The opening fight on the main card is a Welterweight between Carlos Prates (-370) and Li Jingliang (+270). Prates (19-6) is the heavy favorite as he looks to extend his winning streak to 10 consecutive fights. Jingliang (19-8), on the other hand, is just 2-3 in his last five fights.

Prates earned his UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023. He has won both of his fights in the UFC so far, earning knockout wins over Trevin Giles and Charles Radtke. I believe Prates’ hot start will continue, and he will defeat Jingliang this weekend.

  • Prediction: Carlos Prates -370

Jairzinho Rozenstruik (-225) vs. Tai Tuivasa (+185)

Up next is a Heavyweight fight pitting Jairzinho Rozenstruik (-225) vs. Tai Tuivasa (+185). Both fighters are looking for the 15th win of their careers. Tuivasa and Rozenstruik are also both attempting to get their careers back on track.

In their last five fighters, Tuivasa and Rozenstruik are 1-4 and 2-3, respectively. Tuivasa has lost four fights in a row, and I think that streak will continue this weekend. Both fighters are knockout artists, though, so this fight should be quick and exciting.

  • Prediction: Jairzinho Rozenstruik -225

Mateusz Gamrot (-340) vs. Dan Hooker (+250)

Mateusz Gamrot and Dan Hooker are also scheduled to face off this weekend at UFC 305. Gamrot (24-2) is the -340 favorite in this Lightweight fight. He is 7-2 in the UFC, with his only two career losses coming via decision.

Hooker (23-12) is 13-8 in the Octagon and is just 3-4 in his last seven appearances. He has won back-to-back fights, though, and has had over a year off since his win over Jalin Turner at UFC 290. I think Hooker can put together a retro performance that is reminiscent of his initial rise in the UFC and get the upset win over Gamrot.

  • Prediction: Dan Hooker +250

Steve Erceg (-160) vs. Kai Kara-France (+130)

UFC 305’s co-main event is a Flyweight bout between Steve Erceg (-160) and Kai Kara-France (+130). Both fighters are ranked in the top 10, and the winner of this fight could position themselves for another title shot in the near future. Kara-France has lost back-to-back fights, including an interim Flyweight title fight against Brandon Moreno at UFC 277.

Erceg is also coming off a loss in his last appearance. He was defeated by Alexandre Pantoja in their Flyweight title fight at UFC 301. Prior to that loss, though. Erceg had won 11 straight fights, and I think he will get back in the win column this weekend.

  • Prediction: Steve Erceg -160

Dricus Du Plessis (c) (-115) vs. Israel Adesanya (-115)

The main event of UFC 305 could be one of the best Middleweight fights in recent memory. Israel Adesanya was the standard bearer of the division for years, and Dricus Du Plessis has looked unstoppable since joining the UFC.

I am pulling for Adesanya, but I think DDP will be the one getting his hand raised. He is younger and has more momentum behind him. Adesanya has not looked the same in his recent appearances, and he could be in big trouble if DDP takes the fight to the ground.

  • Prediction: Dricus Du Plessis -115
