The BC Lions sit atop the early season CFL odds for the league’s 70th season. Montreal and Winnipeg, who squared off for the Grey Cup last season, are close seconds and thirds. It is still early in the season, though, so every team’s Grey Cup hopes are still alive.
This guide will break down the latest CFL football odds for the top contenders in the league this season. I will discuss the championship odds for every team and give an in-depth look at the top teams challenging for the cup this year. BC Lions Grey Cup Odds
The BC Lions finished the 2023 regular season with a 12-6 record, the second-best record in the West Division. BC lost its season opener but then went on to win three straight. Their 3-1 start was the second-best in the West Division.
Despite losing the opener to the Argonauts, the Lions are the favorites to win the 2024 Grey Cup. BC is listed at +250 odds. They avenged their CFL Division Finals loss to the Blue Bombers last season with a 26-24 win against Winnipeg in week three. If their success continues, the Lions could be on track to make the championship game this season.
On the other hand, two of the Lions’ three wins this season have come against the Elks and the Tiger-Cats. Both teams are winless, which does undermine the confidence that a 3-1 record would normally give a team and its fans.
Montreal Alouettes Grey Cup Odds
The Montreal Alouettes finished the 2023 regular season with an 11-7 record, just good enough to make the playoffs. Montreal put together a great postseason performance, making it all the way to the championship game. The Alouettes entered the game as 7.5-point underdogs to Winnipeg but were able to claim the 110th Grey Cup with a 28-24 win.
Montreal is listed at +275 to repeat as Grey Cup champions. They have reeled off three straight wins to start the season and have outscored their opponents 97 to 53 so far this year.
A big reason for the Alouettes’ hot start has been the play of QB Cody Fajardo. He has racked up 916 passing yards through three games and has seven touchdowns to just one interception. If Fajardo can continue his hot start, then he may be in line to win another Grey Cup MVP.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers Grey Cup Odds
Winnipeg entered the 110th Grey Cup last year as the heavy favorite. They finished the season 14-4 before rolling through the playoffs to the championship game. It was the fourth straight appearance in the Grey Cup for the Blue Bombers.
Unfortunately for Winnipeg, they lost the Grey Cup for the second straight year, falling 28-24 to Montreal. They have carried the effects of that loss into this season, starting the year 0-3. Despite their rough start, the Blue Bombers are listed at +500 to win the Grey Cup this season.
Winnipeg has faced a tough schedule to start the year, playing both the Lions and the Alouettes in two of their first three games. As their schedule gets easier, the Blue Bombers should be able to turn around their season and build momentum for the playoffs.
Toronto Argonauts Grey Cup Odds
The Argonauts are also listed at +500 to win the 111th Grey Cup. Toronto had the best record in the league last year at 16-2. However, they lost 38-17 to the Alouettes in the CFL Division Finals.
Toronto has started the season 2-0 and has plenty of motivation to work with this season. Also, the Argonauts have already proven they have the talent needed to win a championship. They won the 109th Grey Cup with a 24-23 victory over Winnipeg.
The Argonauts received a tough wake-up call in the playoffs, but they have another chance at a championship this year. Toronto is set up well to make another playoff run this season and is all but guaranteed to be one of the top two teams in the East Division.
Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup Odds
The Saskatchewan Roughriders round out the top five in the latest CFL odds for the 111th Grey Cup. Bovada has the Roughriders listed at +650 to win their fifth Grey Cup in 2024.
Saskatchewan missed the playoffs last year after finishing with a 6-12 record. However, they have taken a massive step forward this year, winning their first three games.
Veteran quarterback Trevor Harris has been a huge part of the Roughriders success. He has 70 completions on 97 attempts and seven passing TDs in three games. Saskatchewan needs Harris to continue to play well, especially if head coach Corey Mace’s defense continues to give up nearly 24 points per game.
Who Will Win the Grey Cup?
A handful of teams have started to separate themselves in the early CFL betting odds for the 111th Grey Cup. In the end, though, only one team can win the championship in November. The BC Lions are the favorite, but I think the Alouettes are the better bet to win it all this year.
The Lions have racked up wins against winless teams, and their schedule will only get tougher as the season goes on. Montreal has also benefited from a weak schedule in the early part of the season. However, the Alouettes have a significantly better PF-Pa record.
Montreal also has championship experience, which should help them down the stretch. Their championship metal helped them overcome a 17-7 halftime deficit in the Grey Cup last year. I think it will help them win it again this season.
