When is Conor McGregor’s Next Fight?

June 17th Update

A series of major, unfortunate changes were recently announced to the upcoming UFC 303 card. Two fighters, Conor McGregor and Jamahal Hill, pulled out of the main event and co-main event, respectively. As a result, a new main event and co-main event have been announced.

Why Was McGregor vs. Chandler Canceled?

McGregor’s much-anticipated return to action was supposed to take place this summer.  However, the Irish star’s return will be delayed indefinitely. McGregor suffered an injury in camp, and his fight with Chandler was called off.

We could still see McGregor in action this year, but it may be in a boxing ring. He has feuded online with Ryan Garcia, and rumors of a cross-sports showdown have gained steam.

Former Light Heavyweight challenger Jamahal Hill also withdrew from this card. Hill, who suffered a knockout loss at UFC 300, faced a tough turnaround for this fight. He suffered a knee injury in camp and will not be able to compete later this month.

Updated UFC 303 Odds

In typical UFC fashion, Dana White and CO. are not going to let a few injuries slow down the PPV train. A new main event and co-main event for UFC have been announced.

Alex Pereira will attempt to defend his Light  Heavyweight belt against Jiri Prochazka, and

Diego Lopes will challenge Brian Ortega in a Featherweight showdown. Carlos Ulberg is also still competing and will take on Anthony Smith.

Here are the latest UFC 303 for these three new contests, courtesy of BetOnline.

FavoriteUnderdogPrediction
Alex Pereira (-165)Jiri Prochazka (+145)Alex Pereira (-165)
Diego Lopes (-145)Brian Ortega (+125)Brian Ortega (+125)
Carlos Ulberg (-500)Anthony Smith (+385)Carlos Ulberg (-500)

Alex Pereira (-165) vs. Jiri Prochazka (+145)

Alex Pereira was responsible for handing Jamahal Hill a knockout loss at UFC 300. Now, Pereira will put his Light Heavyweight title again, this time against Jiri Prochazka. Pereira and Prochazka squared off at UFC 295 for the then-vacant Light Heavyweight title.

Their first matchup ended in the second round. Pereira dropped Prochazka with a left hook and followed up with ground and pound for the win.

This should be an exciting fight, but I think it will ultimately have the same result. Prochazka could not beat Pereira on a full camp, and his fighting style puts him at a huge risk of being knocked out. I doubt the result will be different, especially on short notice.

Prediction: Alex Pereira defeats Jiri Prochazka (-165)

Diego Lopes (-145) vs. Brian Ortega (+125)

The new co-main event for UFC 303 is a Featherweight showdown between Diego Lopes (-145) and Brian Ortega (+125). Lopes is the slight favorite heading into this fight.

Ortega is one of the best grapplers in the history of the UFC, but his lack of striking prevented him from winning the belt in his first title shot.  Since losing to Holloway in 2018, Ortega has also lost to Yair Rodriguez and Alexander Volkanovski.

Ortega’s loss to Rodriguez is his only non-title fight loss. The duo ran it back in February, and Ortega won via an arm triangle choke.

Lopes, on the other hand, has 10 KOs and 12 submissions in his career. In theory, his striking skills should give him the edge over Ortega. However, I think Ortega will pull off the upset and add another submission win to his resume.

Prediction: Brian Ortega defeats Diego Lopes (+125)

Carlos Ulberg (-500) vs. Anthony Smith (+385)

Carlos Ulberg was supposed to fight in the co-main event against Jamahal Hill, who had just challenged for the title. If Ulberg won, he would have had a great case for a title shot before the end of the year.

With Hill out, Ulberg will have to settle for journeyman UFC veteran Anthony Smith. Ulberg is a -500 favorite, and Smith is a +385 underdog for this fight.

I picked Ulberg to upset Hill, and I think he will get the win over Smith. Smith has lost three of his last five fights and is a far cry from the fighter who challenged Jon Jones for the belt at UFC 235. Ulberg will win and take another step toward challenging Pereira for the belt.

Prediction: Carlos Ulberg defeats Anthony Smith (-500)

Original

The UFC has knocked it out of the park so far this year with a series of exciting PPV events. UFC 303 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas could be the most exciting card of 2024. The main event will feature the return of one of the sport’s biggest stars: Conor McGregor.

Conor McGregor’s next fight is scheduled for Saturday, June 29th. He will face former Bellator star Michael Chandler at Welterweight in a five-round fight that will be the main event for UFC 303. This is the first UFC PPV not to feature a title fight since UFC 279 in September 2022.

UFC 303 Odds

McGregor’s return to the UFC could be the PPV event of the year in 2024. The Welterweight fight between McGregor and Chandler is not the only fight worth watching, though.

Michael Chandler (-115) vs Conor McGregor (-105)

The main event of UFC 303 is the long-awaited showdown between Michael Chandler (23-8) and Connor McGregor (22-6). This fight has been rumored since before Chandler made the jump to the UFC in 2021. Chandler (-115) is the slight favorite over McGregor (-105) in this fight.

Both fighters are just 1-3 in their last four appearances in the octagon. However, Chandler has been the more active of the two fights. McGregor has not competed since he broke his leg at UFC 274 in July 2021.

Chandler has not experienced the same success in the UFC that he enjoyed in Bellator. He was 18-5 in Bellator but has gone just 2-3 in the UFC so far. A returning McGregor could be the perfect opponent for Chandler.

Four of McGregor’s six career losses have come via submission, and he has consistently struggled with grapplers in his career. Chandler has seven wins by submission in his career and should be able to use his grappling to get the win over McGregor at UFC 303.

Prediction: Michael Chandler defeats Conor McGregor (-115)

Jamahal Hill (-135) vs. Carlos Ulberg (+115)

The co-main event at UFC 303 could have huge implications in the Light Heavyweight division. Jamahal Hill (12-2) will take on Carlos Ulberg (10-1) with a potential future title shot on the line.

Hill just challenged for the belt at UFC 303 and lost via knockout in the first round. Despite the unimpressive showing in his last appearance, Hill is the -135 favorite in the current UFC 303 odds. Ulberg is listed as the +115 underdog.

However, I think that Ulberg is the better bet ahead of this Light Heavyweight showdown. For starters, Hill did not look impressive in his loss at UFC 300 to Light Heavyweight champ Alex Pereira. Also, he was knocked out and is now fighting less than three months later.

Ulberg, on the other hand, has won six straight fights since losing in his UFC debut. Like Pereira, Ulberg has a kickboxing background, and he has had seven knockouts in his MMA career so far. I think Ulberg will pick up another win at UFC 303 and move into title contention.

Prediction: Carlos Ulberg defeats Jamahal Hill (+115)

Ian Machado Garry (-130) vs. Michael Page (+110)

Another exciting fight scheduled for UFC 303 is the Welterweight fight between Ian Machado Garry (14-0) and Michael “Venom” Page (22-2). Garry is a -130 favorite in this fight over the more experienced Page (+110).

Page made his promotional debut at UFC 299, earning a decision victory over Kevin Holland. MVP will have a five-inch reach advantage in this fight against the undefeated Garry.

The winner of this fight could be in line for a title shot later this year. As good as Garry is, he has not faced a challenger like Page yet in his career. I think that Page will be the one to get his hand raised at the end of this fight.

Page had a year of rest between his last Bellator fight and his UFC debut. He will not even have a four-month turnaround, and the 37-year-old’s reduced time off could be challenging. However, I still think that Page can do enough to hand Garry the first loss of his career.

Prediction: Michael Page defeats Ian Machado Garry (+110)

UFC 303 Odds: Best McGregor vs. Chandler Prop Bets

BetOnline is not the only site offering exciting UFC 303. BetUS Sportsbook, for instance, is also a great sports betting site for wagering on UFC events. This sportsbook is loaded with exciting MMA prop bets for McGregor vs. Chandler.

McGregor vs. Chandler Method of Victory

  • KO/TKO (-325)
  • Points/Decision (+400)
  • Submission (+600)

One of my favorite prop wagers for UFC 303 is this method of victory prop for the main event. BetUS has a KO/TKO listed as a heavy favorite at -325. McGregor and Chandler have combined for 30 total KOs in their careers.

However, McGregor and Chandler have only lost a total of six fights via knockout. McGregor has lost four fights via submission, though.

As I mentioned above, I think that Chandler’s grappling will be the deciding factor in this matchup. He has seven submission wins in his pro career, and I believe he will get his eighth at UFC 303.

Prediction: McGregor vs. Chandler ends in submission (+600)

Total Rounds for McGregor vs. Chandler

  • Over 1.5 rounds (-135)
  • Under 1.5 rounds (+105)

You can also wager on the total rounds for Conor McGregor’s next UFC fight. BetUS has the over/under for this fight listed at 1.5 total rounds. The over is a slight favorite at -135.

Both fighters are moving up to 170 for this fight. McGregor and Chandler have both at this weight before, but neither is very experienced at Welterweight. The added weight has hindered McGregor before, and I think it will wear him down when this fight goes into the later rounds.

Prediction: McGregor vs. Chandler goes over 1.5 rounds (-135)

Will McGregor and Chandler Touch Gloves?

  • Yes (-500)
  • No (+300)

Touching gloves is a customary part of the start of a round in MMA. However, fighters often skip this part in partially contentious matchups. Chandler and McGregor have gone back and forth before, but they are still listed at -500 to touch gloves before the fight.

McGregor has skipped the glove touch in fights before. For instance, he did not touch gloves with Khabib at the start of their match at UFC 229.

I do not think that McGregor and Chandler will skip the glove touch. The two do not have nearly the animosity between them as McGregor has had with past opponents. I believe the two will touch gloves ahead of their fight at UFC 303.

Prediction: McGregor and Chandler touch gloves before their fight (-500)

Will Either Fighter Bleed in McGregor vs. Chandler?

  • Yes (-240)
  • No (+160)

Top-rated sportsbooks are also offering odds on whether either Chandler or McGregor will bleed during the fight. Veteran fighters tend to have more scar tissue, which is easier to cut open again. So, it is not surprising that the “yes” option is listed at -240.

BetUS even has odds specifically on McGregor to bleed during this fight. The Irish fighter is listed at +140 to bleed during the UFC 303 main event.

At least one of the fighters in the main event will be cut during the fight. McGregor has been split open with just one punch before, and the scar tissue above his eye is a liability. I would take the yes option in this bet and suggest betting on McGregor specifically to bleed for an even better payday.

Prediction: Either McGregor or Chandler will bleed (-240)

What Are Your UFC 303 Predictions?

Conor McGregor’s next fight is just weeks away. The Irishman will take on Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in a Welterweight bout. You can wager on McGregor’s return and all of the other fights scheduled for this exciting PPV.
