MLB Rookie of the Year Odds: Is Paul Skenes a Worthy Bet?
The current MLB Rookie of the Year odds look drastically different than they did at the start of the season. Paul Skenes is rapidly gaining on Shota Imanaga in the NL. The AL is also a tight race, with three players listed at +275 or better.
I will break down the latest MLB Rookie of the Year odds for both leagues below. Also, this guide will teach you where to bet on baseball futures using the top MLB sportsbooks.
Updated MLB Rookie of the Year Odds
The unique structure of the MLB allows you to bet on two rookies of the year: one for the American League and one for the National League. Check out the table below to see the latest MLB Rookie of the Year odds for both the NL and AL, courtesy of BetOnline Sportsbook.
NL Rookie | Rookie of the Year Odds | AL Rookie | Rookie of the Year Odds |
Shota Imanaga | +110 | Mason Miller | +210 |
Paul Skenes | +275 | Colton Cowser | +250 |
Yoshinobu Yamamoto | +650 | Luis Gil | +275 |
Jared Jones | +1400 | Wilyer Abreu | +600 |
Jackson Merrill | +1600 | Wyatt Langford | +2000 |
Joey Ortiz | +1800 | Junior Caminero | +2500 |
Andy Pages | +1800 | Evan Carter | +3300 |
In the NL, Paul Skenes has made massive strides in Rookie of the Year odds boards. He started the season at +1800, but he is now listed at +275. Shota Imanaga is still the favorite, though, at +275.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto has the third-best odds at +650. Jared Jones and Jackson Merrill round out the top five at +1400 and +1600, respectively.
In the AL, Oakland’s Mason Miller (+210) has a slight lead over Colton Cowser (+250) and Luis Gil (+275). All three rookies have a sizeable lead over the rest of the field in the American League. Wilyer Abreu (+600) has the fourth-best odds, and Wyatt Langford is a distant fifth at +2000.
NL Rookie of the Year Odds
The National League’s race for Rookie of the Year is headlined by three pitchers who have taken the MLB by storm. Let’s take a closer look at the pitchers atop the current 2024 NL Rookie of the Year odds.
Shota Imanaga (+110)
The Cubs’ Shota Imanaga is older than most rookies, at 30 years old. After spending eight years in Nippon Professional Baseball, Imanaga finally made his MLB debut this year. He is the odds-on favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year award at +110.
Chicago’s rookie sensation is 5-1 in his 10 starts this season and has a 1.86 ERA, third-best in all of the MLB. Imanaga also has 59 strikeouts in his 58 innings pitched. He does not pitch as well on the road, though, with his road ERA falling to 2.57.
Paul Skenes (+275)
Another pitcher from the NL Central at the top of the NL Rookie of the Year odds boards is Paul Skenes. The Pirates’ rookie pitcher started the season at +1800 at most sportsbooks. He is currently listed at +275 after being listed at +450 just a week ago.
Skenes just turned 22 years old, and he is just four starts into his MLB career. He has pitched 22 innings and already racked up 30 strikeouts. Skenes also has a 2.45 ERA and is 2-0, with a 0.91 WHIP so far this season.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (+650)
Rounding out the top three NL Rookie of the Year candidates is Dodgers’ pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Japanese pitcher signed a massive deal with LA in the offseason, but he has struggled at times to live up to the hype.
Yoshinobu is 5-2 in his 11 starts and has a 0.7 WAR. However, he has just a 3.51 ERA, which currently ranks 45th in the MLB. Yoshinobu has 69 strikeouts in his 59 innings pitched, tying him for the 19th-most.
NL Rookie of the Year 2024 Prediction
Three great pitching prospects sit atop the NL Rookie of the Year odds. Imanaga is the favorite, but I think Skenes is the better bet to win Rookie of the Year. Skenes has shot up odds boards lately, and betting on him now is the only way to lock in his value.
Prediction: Paul Skenes wins NL Rookie of the Year (+275)
AL Rookie of the Year Odds
There is also an exciting Rookie of the Year race in the American League. Mason Miller, Colton Cowser, and Luis Gil all have better than 3-1 odds to win the award.
Mason Miller (+210)
Mason Miller has a slight edge in the AL Rookie of the Year race at +210. The Oakland relief pitcher made his debut last season, but he spent most of the season on the injured list and pitched fewer than 50 innings.
Miller has pitched 24 innings this season, racking up 47 strikeouts and earning a 1.88 ERA. He also has 11 saves in his 19 appearances and a 0.79 WHIP.
Colton Cowser (+250)
The only non-pitcher with favorable MLB Rookie of the Year odds is Colton Cowser. The Orioles’ left fielder has played 52 games this season and has seven home runs this season. Like Miller, Cowser made his debut last season, but he played in few enough games to still qualify for the Rookie of the Year this season.
Cowser is listed at +250 to be the Rookie of the Year in the AL. He has struggled at the plate lately, earning just 13 hits in 77 at-bats through 24 games so far in May. If Cowser cannot break out of his slump, he could lose his chance at Rookie of the Year.
Luis Gil (+275)
Rounding out the top three candidates for AL Rookie of the Year is Luis Gil. The Yankees starting pitcher is listed at +275. This is Gil’s third season in the MLB, but he only played in seven games and pitched 33.1 innings combined in his first two years in the league.
Gil is 7-1 in his 11 starts this season, the fourth-best record of any starter this year. He has earned a 1.99 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP, ranking 6th and 7th respectively in those categories. The Yankees also currently have the best record in the AL East, and the team’s success could help Gil win the award.
AL Rookie of the Year 2024 Prediction
All three of the players above are deserving AL Rookie of the Year candidates, but only one will win it. Of the three, I believe Gil has the best chance to take home the award. Cowser has struggled lately, and Gil’s prowess as a starter should propel him past Miller, a closer.
Prediction: Luis Gil wins AL Rookie of the Year (+275)
