Odds to Make the College Football Playoff: Can Michigan Go Back-to-Back?
The latest odds to make the College Football Playoff look very different than they have in the past. As of the 2024-2025 season, the CFP will have 12 spots instead of just four. So, many more teams will qualify for their shot at the National Championship.
This guide will teach you how the 12-team College Football Playoff will work this season. Also, I break down the latest CFB playoff odds from the top CFB betting sites. I will tell you my prediction for the 2025 National Championship game, too.
How Will the 12-Team Playoff Work?
The 2025 CFP will look significantly different than it has in years past. There will be 12 teams in the postseason instead of just four. As a result, the process for making the playoffs has also changed.
Under the new expanded format, the five highest-ranked conference champions will automatically qualify for the postseason. The remaining seven spots will go to the next seven highest-ranked teams not already in the playoff.
The 12-team format will also give first-round byes to the four highest-ranked teams in the playoffs. While they are on a bye, the remaining eight teams will compete in the opening round. The fifth seed will play the 12th seed, and the sixth seed will play the 11th seed, and so on.
12-Team CFB Playoff Odds
The 2025 CFP will be bigger than ever now that the field has been expanded by 300%. Here are the latest CFB playoff odds, courtesy of BetUS Sportsbook.
- Georgia (+330)
- Ohio State (+460)
- Texas (+700)
- Oregon (+900)
- Alabama (+1400)
- LSU (+1400)
- Ole Miss (+1500)
- Michigan (+1600)
The reigning champions, Michigan, are listed at just 16-6 to repeat as National Champions. Seven teams are ahead of the Wolverines, including the betting favorites, Georgia (+330).
Odds to Make the 12-Team College Football Playoffs
Before a team can win the 2025 National Championship, it must qualify for the new 12-team playoff. BetUS has odds on dozens of teams vying for one of the 12 spots. Check out the table below to see the latest odds to make the College Football Playoff.
Team | Odds to Make CFP | Team | Odds to Make CFP |
---|---|---|---|
Georgia | -900 | Ohio State | -800 |
Texas | -500 | Oregon | -400 |
Florida State | -250 | Clemson | -250 |
Notre Dame | -225 | Kansas State | -200 |
Michigan | -150 | Ole Miss | -125 |
Miami | -110 | Utah | -110 |
Alabama | +100 | Penn State | +100 |
Tennessee | +225 | Arizona | +200 |
LSU | +225 | Kansas | +250 |
Missouri | +275 | Louisville | +275 |
Georgia (+330)
The current favorite to win the 2025 National Championship is the Georgia Bulldogs. Sports betting sites have the Bulldogs listed at -900 to make the 12-team playoff and +330 to win the National Title.

Georgia won back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023 but fell short of the three-peat. The Bulldogs lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship game last year and were left out of the playoffs entirely.
Many other top contenders have experienced tons of turnover at key positions, including QB and head coach. Georgia, on the other hand, has been relatively stable and appears ready to win its third championship in four years.
Ohio State (+460)
The team with the second-best CFB playoff odds heading into the 2024 season is Ohio State. BetUS has the Buckeyes listed at +460 to win their first National Championship under Ryan Day. It would also be the program’s first National Title since 2014.
Day is sticking around for another season, but he is likely on the hot seat. He will have a new QB to work with this year after last season’s starter, Kyle McCord, transferred to Syracuse. Will Howard, who transferred from Kansas State, is in line to be the Buckeyes QB1 this year.
Howard is coming off a stellar season, but playing at Ohio State is a step up from Kansas State. If he can play at a similar level as last season, the Buckeyes should be a top contender come playoff time.
Texas (+700)
The Longhorns made their long-awaited return to the postseason last year as the third of four playoff teams. Texas lost in the semi-finals to Washinton, but they have retained most of their core plays and should make the playoffs again this year.

BetUS has Texas listed at +700 to win it all this season. QB Quinn Ewers is returning for another season, but the rest of the Longhorns offense will look significantly different. WR Adonai Mitchell, WR Xavier Worthy, and RB Jonathan Brooks are all projected to be top 50 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Longhorns will also have to replace plenty of talented on the defensive side of the ball, including LB Jaylan Ford and DL Byron Murphy II. The talent drain could be too much for the Texans to overcome.
Alabama (+1400)
Speaking of losing talent, few programs have lost more than Alabama. Nick Saban, arguably the greatest college football head coach of all time, retired after the team’s loss in the CFP Semi-Finals. Overcoming the loss of Saban will be easier said than done for Alabama.
The good news for the Crimson Tide is that QB Jalen Milroe is sticking around for another season. Milroe led the team to an SEC title last season and should help make the transition easier for new head coach Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer led the Washington Huskies to the National Championship game last season. Finding that same success in the SEC will be tough, but Alabama cannot be counted out, given the talent still on the roster.
Michigan (+1600)
The defending National Champions also need to replace talent across the board. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh is now in the NFL. In just a few weeks, QB J.J. McCarthy, RB Blake Corum, and plenty of other starters will also make the jump to the pros.

Michigan has the 10th-best odds to make the College Football Playoff this season. With 12 teams being admitted to the tournament, the Wolverines should at least be a contender for one of the lower seeds.
However, it is challenging to project how well Michigan will be able to play next season. There has simply been too much turnover on the Wolverines roster. I doubt they will beat Ohio State for the fourth straight year, so Michigan’s best chance will be to make the playoffs as a non-conference champion.
2025 CFB Playoff Prediction
There are plenty of talented rosters in college football that could make a run to the National Title this season. With 12 teams now allowed in the playoffs, picking the right team to bet on is even more fun.
The team I would bet on at this point in the offseason is Georgia (+330). The Bulldogs could have won it all last season fi they did not slip up against Alabama. Also, Georgia has stability at key positions, such as QB and head coach, that many other top contenders do not.
